Akrotiri Santorini photo copyrighted by: Galen R. Frysinger Nicknamed the "the Minoan Pompeii," the flourishing Minoan town of Aktrotiri was
frozen in time around 1450 BC by a cataclysmic eruption of the island's volcano.
The large extent of the settlement, the elaborate drainage system, the
sophisticated multi-storeyed buildings with the magnificent wall-paintings,
furniture and vessels, show its great development and prosperity.
