Annunciation Cathedral Kremlin photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow The cathedral was badly damaged in the fires and riots
that swept through Moscow in 1547 in the wake of Ivan the Terrible's coronation, and was restored between 1562 and 1564. It is originally built as the domestic church of grand princes and tsars and part of the tsar's personal quarters.
