Assumption Cathedral Building photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow The cathedral built of moderate-size white stone blocks has facades articulated by massive pylons of the same
width and height. It was the place of the coronation of the first Russian Tsar, Ivan the Terrible, in 1547 and it was here that all the Emperors were crowned from 1721 onwards and the Metropolitans and Patriarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church were inaugurated and buried.
