Assumption Cathedral Kremlin photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow The Cathedral of the Assumption is the Kremlin's oldest and most important church and has been the protector of Russian Orthodoxy since the seat of the Church was transferred here from Vladimir in 1326. The cathedral is the resting place of the heads of the Russian church of the 14th-17th century period, among them the relics of thaumaturgies Peter, Jonas, Philip and Hermogen.
