Cabo San Lucas tours photo copyrighted by: Galen R. Frysinger Baja California Sur shares much of its history with the state of Baja California; the two did not formally separate until 1930. Both states remained federal territories for most of the 20th century, with Baja California Sur becoming a state in 1974.
