India Gate Delhi photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow The India Gate monument was called the All India War Memorial originally. Edwin Lutyens built it to commemorate the Indian soldiers who died in the World War I and the 1919 Afghan Wars. A tour of Lutyens’ Delhi just has to kick off with the stately India Gate at the east end of the broad Janpath (earlier Kingsway) that leads to the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
