Later, legends said that a dragon had flown by, so it was renamed Longtanbei.
In 1950 it was named Longtan Township under the jurisdiction of Taoyuan County. The township has an area of 75.23 km2 and a population of 112,758 people.
Most of them are Hakka people that immigrated from Guangdong during the
Qianlong Regime in the Qing Dynasty.
