Oqba Ibn Nafaa Mosque photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow The Great Mosque, also known as the Sidi Oqba mosque, had its simple beginnings in 670 AD,
during the time of Uqba ibn Nafi, the original founder of Kairouan.
The prayer hall, measuring 80m by 40m, is a forest of columns with beautiful shafts and
capitals from ancient buildings, some from as far afield as Carthage and Hadrumetum .
