Sagrada Familia Building photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow The first stone was placed on March 19, 1882, on the festival of St. Joseph. The building remained intact during the war, but in 1936 many of its models and plans were destroyed by Catalan anarchists, who regarded Gaud? and his church as conservative religious relics that had no place in the new Barcelona.
