Saqqara photo copyrighted by: Egypt 7000 travel Saqqara is an immense necropolis (cemetery) just south of Cairo and west of the ancient city of Memphis of which very little remains. The most famous structure of Saqqara is the Step Pyramid of Zoser, which was built under control of the architect Imhotep.
