St Basil Cathedral Architecture photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow St. Basil's was built on the site of the earlier Trinity Cathedral, which at one point gave its name to the neighboring square. In 16th century a stone church of the Trinity with a small cemetery was situated on this place.
