St Basil Cathedral History photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow In the 16th century the tourists admired the beauty of
the cathedral, and for the Russians it became the
symbol of native history and culture. Legend has it that on completion of the church the Tsar ordered the architect, Postnik Yakovlev, to be blinded to prevent him from ever creating anything to rival its beauty again.
