St Stephen Cathedral photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow St. Stephen's Cathedral, Austria's most eminent Gothic edifice, houses a wealth of art
treasures.
A major fire in 1258 destroyed the basilica and construction on the present cathedral began
in the early 14th century.
The 135-meter high steeple of the cathedral is used as a symbol to signify the spirit of
the city.
