Stone guardian photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow Wat Po's acknowledgement of human corporeality goes beyond the giant Buddha.
The grounds are stuffed with stone figures performing Buddhist yoga positions.
These statues, some with animal heads corresponding to the names of their
poses, are studied by many Thais for lessons on how to maintain health and
happiness. Elsewhere in the complex one can examine detailed anatomical
paintings based on astrological and quasi-medical ideas, which link one’s birth date, personality, and karma.
