Tanzhe Si Tour photo copyrighted by: BeijingChinaWorld The Tanzhe monastery, built 1500 years ago (built even before the city of Beijing) when Buddhism was first introduced into Beijing, is surrounded by mountains
clad with towering ancient trees and dotted by age-old temples with 75 Buddha towers strewn on the southern mountain slope. It is both grand in design and atmosphere, similar to many of the other imperial temples in Beijing. The
temple is an active place of Buddhist worship, with ceremonies on the first day and the 15th day of each lunar month.
