The Conquest photo copyrighted by: Galen R. Frysinger Greater Mexico City, sometimes considered the world's largest and most populated city, forms a rough oval of about 60 by 40 kilometers, on the dry bed of lake Texcoco, surrounded on three sides by tall mountains and volcanoes such as the Ajusco, the Popocatepetl and the Ixtlacihuatl. The city sits in a valley, formed by mountains and volcanoes, making this the worst of the environments to locate one of the largest cities in the world.
