A Famosa Porta de Santiago photo copyrighted by: Kazuo Lim Khee Boon In 1808, the British decided to level A Famosa Porta de Santiago and folks in town were thrilled because at last all the poor people of Malacca could become rich from the money they earn demolishing the Fort. For almost 150 years, this magnificent fort had successfully protected the Portuguese position in Melaka, until it was overrun by the Dutch.It was damaged during the attack.
