Hassan II Mosque was built between 1986 and 1993 for the 60th birthday of former Moroccan
king Hassan II.
Designed by French architect Michel Pinseau, construction of the Hassan II Mosque began in
July 1986 on land reclaimed from a run-down area near the sea.
