Ihuatzio comes from the Purepecha language and means 'Place of the Coyotes'. Ihuatzio is located in the eastern reaches of the Patzcuaro Lake Basin on the slope of a hill. Ihuatzio It is also the site of a sixteenth century Franciscan convent.
