The UAE is a member of the United Nations and the Arab League. The federation of the United Arab Emirates consists of of Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah,
Sharjah, and Umm-al-Qaiwain. Formerly known as the Trucial States, Trucial Coast, or Trucial Oman, the seven constituent emirates were bound to Great Britain by truce (1820) and agreement (1892).
